Yumiko Matsubara

松原 祐美子

Licensed Architect (Japan/NY)

A graduate of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, she worked in the design department of Takenaka Corporation before moving to the United States in 2016 to earn a Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. After serving as a research fellow at the same school, she worked as a senior architect at BIG and Rafael Viñoly Architects in New York, contributing to projects in the U.S. and abroad. In 2024 she founded Yumiko Matsubara Architecture + Design, and she is based in New York City. Her many honors include the JCD Award, the DSA Award, the SDA Award, the BELCA Award, and the NYC Public Design Annual Award for Excellence. At U Share, she is responsible for advisory work, design, planning, and visualization grounded in her own student-dormitory experience and an international perspective.
