Meijo Park
2022-2023Kita, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan

Founded in 1615 (Keicho 20) by Tokugawa Ieyasu, Nagoya Castle was a great keep crowned with golden shachihoko, rising five tiers and five stories, and boasting the largest total floor area in history. In 1930 it became the first castle designated a National Treasure -- one of the finest castles ever built. Located directly east of it, inside what was then the outer moat, this 'former Meijo Factory site' sits in the city center overlooking the historic Nagoya Castle and the green, water-rich Meijo Park, yet remains embraced by both 'culture' and 'nature' -- an area whose potential as a 'place' for its community runs high. On this land, we assemble a team centered on local companies that operate ventures such as a medical corporation, and bring together professional skills and know-how across healthcare, health management, fitness, hot-bath facilities, sauna, sports, food, design, and architectural design. With these, we plan a stay-based 'new place for learning and discovery about health,' themed on 'health, beauty, and food' and fitting for this site.
